Drug interactions

What the module actually checks#

• No interaction database is preloaded. The list is empty on installation; only the pairs you enter trigger an alert.
• The check is on the catalogue product, not on the INN (generic name). Two brands of the same molecule = two pairs to record.
• The check takes place at the Point de Vente (point of sale), when a product is added to a basket that already contains others: the new product is compared with each line in the basket.
• No check in Vente Rapide (quick sale), nor against the patient's purchase history or allergies.

Record an interaction#

The Interactions page (« Interactions Médicamenteuses ») is restricted to the admin.

1. Click ➕ Nouvelle Interaction (new interaction).
2. Under Médicament A :, search for and select the first product.
3. Under Médicament B :, select the second.
4. Sévérité : (severity) Mineure, Modérée (default), Sévère or Contre-indiquée (minor, moderate, severe, contraindicated).
5. In the description, state the mechanism and what to do (« Décrire le mécanisme et la conduite à tenir… »). This is the text the sales assistant will see: keep it clear and short.
6. Confirm.

Possible refusals: « Choisissez les deux médicaments dans les listes. » and « Les deux médicaments doivent être différents. ». The same pair cannot be entered twice, in either order (A + B = B + A).

The interaction list#

Columns: ID, Médicament A, Médicament B, Sévérité, Description. Filter by severity, search on the name of either product, and a count by severity under the table.

Edit with ✏️ Modifier or a double-click, delete with 🗑️ Supprimer.

The alert at the Point de Vente#

When you add a product that interacts with a line in the basket, an « Interaction médicamenteuse — … » window (with the highest severity) appears:

• the number of interactions detected, then, for each one, the severity in square brackets, the two products and your description, from most to least serious;
• a critical icon for Sévère and Contre-indiquée, a warning icon otherwise;
• the question « Voulez-vous tout de même ajouter ce médicament au panier ? » (add this medicine to the basket anyway?) — default button: No.

1. Non (No): the product is not added, the basket is unchanged.
2. Oui (Yes): the product is added and the decision is recorded in the Journal d'Activité (activity log) under INTERACTION_OVERRIDE (user, product, number of interactions, highest severity).

Building a useful list#

• Start with the combinations frequently dispensed together in your pharmacy.
• Record every form and strength in the catalogue: each product is separate.
• Keep « Contre-indiquée » for combinations that must not be dispensed, and say so in the description.
• When you remove a product from the catalogue, review its interactions.

A concrete example#

1. You have recorded a pair of two catalogue products as « Sévère », with the description "Bleeding risk — avoid the combination, consult the prescriber".
2. At the Point de Vente, the sales assistant adds the first product: no alert, the basket was empty.
3. They add the second: the « Interaction médicamenteuse — Sévère » window appears with the critical icon and your description.
4. They answer No: the product is not added, and they contact the doctor or advise the patient. Or they answer Yes after checking: the product is added and the decision is recorded under their name.

If the second product had been another brand of the same molecule, not recorded in the list, no alert would have appeared.
